Haunting and vibrant in curious ways.

Very interesting! Hints of Borges and Shirley Jackson, without owing anything to them.

Since I see the author lives on Vancouver Island, I wonder if she ever visited the Old Curiosity Shoppe on the Seattle waterfront. I went there many times as a boy, mostly to see Sylvester, the mummy in the glass case. He looked remarkably like my grandfather except that my grandfather didn't have that long mustache.

Yes I did! And good call-- Sylvester was the inspiration for this story!

My wild hunch confirmed! Now I can say “I knew him when…” 😉

I found this very strange and a little gross, but riveting. I don't usually enjoy stories like this, but this one was exceptional.

Really amazing ekphrastic piece based on one of my favorite artist's work! Kudos!

What a strange (but very cool) tale! I like how the gentleman is presented as human and alive at first but we get a lot of hints that he’s really not… it gives quite a creepy feeling while trying to figure out what’s going on. I really enjoyed the writing style here too, it flows easily and was a pleasure to read!

This felt like I was slowly being led from complete pitch blackness into sunlight, slowly and curiously revealing the surroundings. Idk how else to put it, it just felt to good to be leaning in and listening to the author as she guided me (very strategically) through my own imagination as it was firing up with every sentence.
